Natural Horsemanship: There's a picture of me in this, can you find it!?

  1. Very.... interesting video.

Well, I don't really know what you look like. I could only guess from your 'about me' photo. However, are you at the very end?? Or are you the girl in the yellowish shirt riding a horse and wearing a big smile? But that was a video part... hmm... :)

I do have to say, though, that just because you use a bridle, saddle, etc, doesn't mean you are cruel to your horse. And quite frankly, some horses need a little discipline (especially young ones). That doesn't mean you put them in chains, but there does need to be some restriction. Someone needs to be boss.... but that boss doesn't have to be mean, either. I know there are probably some people out there who are mean to horses, but not everyone is.

did you put together this video? Just curious... :)

  2. I'm the one jumping after the word understanding. No, I didn't make it. I came across it on You Tube and was quite surprised to see myself there!

I see what you are saying, riding without bits dose not at all solve all the problems. It's mostly about how you ride. The point is horses don't need bits. Horses learn through pressure and release so if you are always pulling on the horses mouth its like riding with the breaks on.etc.

And I think young horses are the least in need of bits if they are trained correctly from the beginning, most problems with horses are caused by us humans.

There are allot of these anti-bit videos, but I guess they are also confusing and misleading because they don't emphasis that it isn't because there are no bits that makes it beautiful but because of good training and a clear understanding with the horse which makes it possible to ride without constraints.

I'm sorry for ranting, I could go on all day! :)

Thank you for your comment. Do you ride too? YOu must. :-D

    Felicity

  3. Ah, I see what you are saying. I actually know/knew of someone who can ride her horse with just a halter... unfortunately, the only horses we ride at hte moment (so, that answers your question about if I ride.. :) have come off of a different ranch. So, they were alreayd trained on teh bit. The lady I mentioned earlier also trained her horse to sounds, which was really neat. If she made a certain click or 'hiss' noise, the horse would do whatever. I would love to train my horse like that.
I don't mind using the bit, but I always make sure I am gentle on the horse when using it. One horse I used to have, before he died, was so good I just layed my hand on his neck and he would turn.
Don't worry about ranting. I do the same! I guess I kind of got upset at the video only because they pulled all these pictures.. bad pictures of the horse with the bit. All the horses who have bits look like they are frightened or something (which, some probably are).. but horses don't look like that all the time when they where a bit. So, I guess I hate that they only show bad horses with bits, and terribly good horses without any bits.. too bad they don't have some pictures of when those 'no bit' trainers were training and the horse ran off on them! Which I am sure happens, until they learn and all...

Oops, now I am going on! ;)

So, where are you in the video?? :)
